RECENT NOTABLE ACTIVITY – MOBILE PAYMENTS

  • MoMo, a Vietnam based open system mobile wallet service provider, raised $28M funding from Standard Chartered and Goldman Sachs. Link
  • JusPay, a mobile and online checkout payment technology provider, raised $5.8M funding from Accel Partners and founders of BookMyShow, an online entertainment ticketing platform. Link 
  • Ensygnia, a mobile payment solution provider, raised $710k Series A funding from Gate Ventures Plc. Link
  • SpeedETab, a mobile ordering and payment app, raised $650k seed funding from AVenture Capital, a private investment firm. Link
  • FTCash, a card and multiple wallet linked payment app, raised $150k pre-Series A funding led by IvyCap Ventures. Link
  • Jumio, an online and mobile authentication technology provider, filed a $3.7M bankruptcy and is selling its business to Facebook Co-Founder Eduardo Severin. Link
  • Ola, a taxi hailing app, acquired Qarth, a mobile payment app provider called X-Pay for an undisclosed amount. Link
  • ShopClues, an online shopping platform is in talks to buy mobile wallet payment startup, Momoe, for around $8M – $15M. Link
  • Tata Consultancy Service, in association with DNB, a financial service group in Norway, launched a P2P mobile payment app called Vipps. Link
  • Dream Payments, a mPoS solution provider, launched a white-label merchant service platform for banks and merchant acquirers. Link
  • Dukascopy Bank, launched its own electronic wallet payment solution. Link
  • FIDO bank launched HCE- enabled mobile payments app, in collaboration with PriNum, a mobile wallet developer. Link
  • Square, a mPoS service provider, launched its mobile payment service in Australia. Link

Mozido (2008, Austin, $337M) – Provides white-label wallets, mobile payment, shopping and marketing solutions. Backed by Brentwood Associates, Wellington Management. 
LevelUp (2011, Boston, $51M) – Provides mobile payment using QR code, NFC, iBeacon and white label wallet solutions. Backed by Google Ventures and Highland Capital.

Wallets – P2P Money Transfer
Venmo (2009, NYC, $1.3M, Acq.) – Wallet based money transfer among friends and families. Backed by Accel, Greycroft Partners. Acquired by Braintree Payments for $26M in August 2012.

Multi-Solutions
Mobetize (2012, Washington, IPO) – Mobile commerce solution provider for Telecom and Payment industry. Went public in 2015.
Corduro (2008, SouthLake$4M) – Provides wallet and m-PoS solutions. Backed by Google Ventures, Founders Collective.
goSwiff (2010, Singapore) – Provides mobile platform for m-PoS and m-wallet solutions.

Carrier Billing
Bango (1999, Cambridge, IPO) – Allows payment collection for online purchases using carrier billing. Went public in 2005.
Boku (2009, SF, $107M) – Provides carrier billing for online shopping. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Khosla Ventures.
Fortumo (2007, Tartu, $10M) – Provides mobile operator billing service. Backed by Intel Capital and Greycroft Partners.

Mobeam (2010, SF, $38M) – Mobeam is a payment technology enabler, that allows laser/barcode scanners to read barcode from the mobile wallet. Backed by Yet2Ventures, Draper Athena, Samsung Ventures and Mitsui & Co.
Mobeewave (2012, Montreal, $6.5M) – Provides solutions for accepting NFC payments. Backed by SBT Venture Capital.

m-Payment Gateway
Judo Payments (2012, London, $5M) – provides secure in-app payments, web payments, virtual terminals and IVR solutions. Backed by Route 66 Ventures.
Salt Technology (2008, SF, $6.5M) – Payments platform focused on the fast consumer checkout experience on mobile.
