Google Inks $1.1B Deal Investing In Taiwan’s Smartphone Maker HTC
Alphabet subsidiary Google announced today that it has signed a $1.1B agreement with HTC Corporation, a Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corporation. HTC will receive the full amount in cash from Google as a part of the transaction and Google will receive a non-exclusive license for HTC intellectual property.

NuLeaf Tech (Los Altos, 2015) – NuLeaf Tech is an early stage startup that is developing a plant microbial fuel cell (PMFC). The company is in the process of developing a technology for creating artificial wetland and plant microbial fuel cell in a park that treats wastewater and creates electricity. They treat water contaminated by biological waste on site by mimicking ecosystem processes. Their PMFC uses wetland microbes to clean water with simple biological waste and energy is created through the microbe’s digestion of the waste.

With $247M funded across 26 startups, Marketplace for BabySitting services emerged as one of the largest upcoming sectors in the Mom & Baby Care Space. Another usual suspect is online platforms offering essential baby and maternity products, with $532 pumped into 16 startups.

Interestingly, within essentials, subscription of private label products emerged as a strong upcoming business model, with $228M invested into just one company, Santa Monica based Honest. After a growth streak from 2013 to 2015, the sector in 2017 YTD saw $180M funded across 68 rounds. Of this, 32 rounds were at seed stage, 30 at early stage, and only five late stage rounds.

A total of $1.4B have been invested across 195 rounds in 2017 in the AgriTech space. Of these, the biggest share has been claimed by early stage investments, $898M across 96 rounds.

Ecommerce Enabler Sector chiefly includes B2B platforms that help retailers, brands or manufacturers operate their businesses online. In 2017 YTD, the sector has seen $1.2B invested across 110 rounds. Of these, $753M were pumped in 20 late stage rounds.
