  • TechSee, a provider of augmented visual support solution for technical support, raises $7.5M in Series A funding from investors including Planven Investments, OurCrowd, innogy, Comdata Group. Link
  • Car360, a platform for visualization of cars and related data, raises $3.55M in Series A funding from BIP Capital, Radical Investments and Service Provider Capital. Link
  • Snapchat bought the AR location intellectual property of startup Drop. Link
  • 8i launches hologram app Holo and announces partnership with Sony Pictures. Link
  • Apple patents light field cameras for their Macs and iOS devices that will add AR to pictures and video calls. Link
  • Meta selected by World Economic Forum in world’s top 30 Technology Pioneers in 2017. Link
  • Nokia and Xiaomi sign cross-licensing patent deal, to explore opportunities for cooperation in areas such as augmented reality, virtual reality. Link

Blippar (2011, London, $99M) – Visual discovery browser using augmented reality and image recognition. Backed by undisclosed investors. Acquired Layar, AR browser provider in 2014; and Binocular, AR virtual try-on app developer in 2015.
Infinity AR (2006, Petah Tikva, $75M) – Provides AR content development platform. Filed IPO in 2009, went back to becoming private after investments from Alibaba and Sun Corporation in November 2016. Backed by Alibaba, Sun Corporation, Singulariteam Fund, Platinum Partners.

Osmo (2013, Palo Alto, $36M) – Hardware-based iPad games for kids. Backed by Accel Partners, Upfront Ventures, K9 Ventures, and others.
